Legal Aid Society
Providing Legal Services to Small BusinessesFried Frank and the New York Legal Aid Society teamed up in 2002 to implement the Pro Bono Externship Program, which was created to assist the Society in fulfilling its commitment to provide pro bono legal services to low-income businesses and micro-entrepreneurs through the Community Development Project (CDP).
Each year, three associates are given the opportunity to spend four months working full-time in the CDP offices under the supervision of Society staff attorneys to provide legal services to a wide variety of small businesses and community not-for-profit organizations. The externship is ongoing and is open to midlevel associates in the benefits, corporate, intellectual property and technology, real estate, and tax departments.
